3 Amazing Temples Tour

Three Temples Full Day Trip

Khao Lak and its surrounding area has many amazing Buddhist temples, some just too beautiful and interesting to miss. If you want some insight into the deeper side of Thailand and what binds the population together, there’s no better place than a local temple.

Thai Buddhism is largely based on the Theravada tradition and has played such an important role throughout the history of the country. It has enriched the lives of the Thai population in many ways, shaping the culture and society.

For my Three Amazing Temples Tour, I’ve hand-picked three of Khao Lak and Phang Nga Province’s most notable temples. Here’s a quick summary of what to expect — if you want more of their stories, please join me on this cultural Khao Lak tour.

Bang Raing Temple

Bang Raing Temple, or Wat Bang Raing — using the Thai word “Wat” for temple — is located in Thap Put in Phang Nga Province. The temple sits atop Khao Lan Mountain with a seated golden Buddha image and a large statue of the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Kwan Im in Thai. Surrounded by lush green jungle, the temple’s fine Thai architecture and golden images are a wonder to behold.

Bang Thong Temple

In stark contrast to the rural setting of Wat Bang Raing, Wat Bang Thong is a majestic golden temple that towers over the surrounding low-lying forests. It’s a beautiful and impressive example of Thai Buddhist architecture, and not to be missed.

Suwanna Khuha Temple

Wat Suwanna Khuha is one of Phang Nga Province’s most important temples due to its historical and archaeological past, and is known as Wat Tham by the locals. Beyond the more traditional temple buildings there’s a series of caves where many Buddha images are enshrined. The first chamber is home to a large, impressive reclining Buddha. The temple is also commonly referred to as the Monkey Temple, due to the large number of monkeys that occupy the areas outside the caves.
